We focus a lot on singles competitors at Grapple Theory so, to make amends for that, in this piece we’ll be looking at the most exciting tag teams from around the world of indie wrestling.

There will be a fair few from the UK but others from Japan and the USA as well.

Let us know your favourite indie tag team.

One of the newer teams on this list, Mariah May and Zoe Lucas only started their new found friendship at TNT Extreme’s Going Off Big Time show.

May then came out to attack Gisele Shaw at RevPro, which would see the pair seemingly have each others backs moving forward.

They’ve only teamed up once in tag competition but this formidable duo - who resemble what we imagine a Bratz doll wrestler would be designed as - could make big waves in the tag scene.

They’ve teamed before, under different team names, but the current pairing of TK Cooper and Chuck Mambo have been hoping to rise through the tag ranks since reunited at Progress.

They are also part of RevPro’s Great British Tag League and it would be a glorious day for BritWres if these two best friends can finally get their hands on tag team gold.

The current Shimmer and BCP tag team champions have been making waves across the tag division in the States since they first teamed up in 2015.

Ashley Vox and Delmi Exo have proven themselves worthy of their spots at the top of the tag rankings in various promotions and even have some big TV appearances on Impact and AEW Dark under their belts.

We’re surprised they haven’t been signed up yet, they deserve it.

The Cosmic Angels

The only trios tag team on this list; Mina Shirakawa, Tam Nakano and Unagi Sayaka make up the three members of the Cosmic Angels.

The current Artist of Stardom Champions (side note: why is it that Stardom have the coolest title names) have been on an absolute rampage through the various Stardom factions.

Their current tag reign is into its eighth month, having dethroned Oedo Tai for the straps back in December 2020 and it shows no signs of slowing down.

Lykos Gym

Since his return to in-ring action Kid Lykos has been on an absolute tear. And now he has his protege Kid Lykos II as his back up.

The pair didn’t take long to make a mark, already becoming Progress Tag Team champions. The future looks bright for these two and their pairing have given a massive push to both. We wouldn’t want to come up against them on their best day!

Pretty Little Killers

If you’re dressing up as Harley Quinn for Halloween take a look at yourself in the mirror, then look at the Pretty Little Killers and realise they’re the more badass version of the DC character - who is pretty lame by comparison.

Coming to the ring with baseball bats already gives Ruby Radley and Ivy a menacing aura and they back that up with their punishing in-ring style.

We can’t imagine it will be long until this pair pick up tag team gold.

Michael Oku and Connor Mills don’t generally team up as much as we’d like them to, but perhaps that will change this year.

The pair have only had nine tag matches in more than two years - with both focussing on either other teams or singles action - but they work so well together that it’s something we simply need more of.

They are also currently taking part in RevPro’s Great British Tag League and if we’re lucky their partnership might just extend beyond the tournament.
