WRESTLER CRUSH WEDNESDAY: HYAN
Author: Rebecca Gault (@timelessthekla)
Welcome to Wrestler Crush Wednesday – your weekly feature here at Grapple Theory where I, your humble host, tell you all about my indie wrestler crush of the week so you know who to look out for on the independent scene!
Now, this one is almost definitely me racing the big companies – will this drop before this wrestler gets signed? Who’s to say but let’s try! If you have seen anything from AEW in the past few weeks, this name might be familiar to you but today, I want to talk about Hyan.

Lately, Hyan has been featured on AEW TV as the tag partner of Maya World—keep an eye out for that feature one day! —in the midst of ongoing backstage mess, apparently. However, Hyan has absolutely made the most of the time she has gotten on TV so, if you’ve liked seeing her on television, why not dig into her indie career ahead of her near certain signing?
Hailing from Texas, Hyan is a well-established name on the independent scene with notable matches all across the world, including in promotions such as RevPro, wXw, Sendai Girls, and Deadlock Pro Wrestling.

The self-professed Renaissance Woman of wrestling, Hyan is just as well-rounded as her nickname would imply. Equally as capable of playing the cheap, vicious heel and the scrappy, underdog babyface, Hyan is all about versatility and it’s such a valuable trait in someone working across such a broad range of promotions.
Hyan’s recent showing in DEFY, aiming to capture the DEFY Women’s Championship from AEW’s Marina Shafir, is a great showcase of her work as a scrappy babyface, being forced to survive a straight up mauling throughout the match while also getting in her own fierce offence.
Meanwhile, in Deadlock, her feud with Dani Luna, culminating in a nasty dog collar match, shows off her skill for working as a bratty heel who isn’t afraid to work a crowd.

Despite being inadvertently omitted from the PWI 250, the speed at which fans noticed and rallied for her to have a place shows just how beloved she is within the independent scene.
It’s absolutely worth checking out all her work before you inevitably see her on your television screen in a more significant capacity!
