WRESTLER CRUSH WEDNESDAY: JOHNNIE ROBBIE

Author: Rebecca Gault (@timelessthekla)

Welcome to Wrestler Crush Wednesday – your weekly feature here at Grapple Theory where I, your humble host, tell you all about my indie wrestler crush of the week so you know who to look out for on the independent scene!

As much as it is so much fun to highlight some bigger names that you might all already be familiar with – even in passing – I am so excited to talk to you about some folks who are just hitting a new level on the independent scene. This week’s piece is all about one of those!

Johnnie Robbie, hailing from Southern California, has become a mainstay on her local independent scene. A fact that’s all the more impressive when you find out that she was out for all of 2024 with a serious neck injury, the kind that could have jeopardized her career.

Her resilience in returning and in thriving afterwards has been admirable to say the least. Currently, and most notably, she is the West Coast Pro women’s world champion, a title she’s held for over 250 days, but also has the PrideStyle New Wave World Championship and NTLL Women’s World Championship to her name.

With her momentum, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for her work going forward.

In ring, Robbie is a versatile worker, able to easily work face or heel, and has the type of natural charisma that is so very, very hard to teach – but the type that makes for an excellent wrestler! Her unique presentation will carry her far – and gain her a lot of love with fans!

Recently, Robbie has gone toe to toe with some of the best names on the indie scene and beyond. Her West Coast Pro match against Maya World is worth a look, with both women getting an excellent showing at a very brisk pace – as if either of them needed to prove their working abilities!

Similarly, her recent title defence against Dani Luna is a great showing of Robbie’s ability to work the tough underdog role, especially against Luna’s particularly vicious heel performance.

I have no doubt that Robbie will continue to go from strength to strength – and we can all only hope to see her get to spread her wings as she works through her home scene and, hopefully, all across the world again.
